Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has revealed that his wife Simi’s genotype was an important factor he considered before their marriage.

Speaking during an interview with One 54, the singer said he would not have married Simi if she had an SS or AS genotype, explaining that he was concerned about possible health challenges for their future children. Simi, he said, has an AA genotype.
His comments have sparked mixed reactions online. While some people supported his decision to consider genetic health risks before starting a family, others questioned the way he expressed his views.
Adekunle Gold and Simi got married in January 2019 after years of friendship and working together in music. They have a daughter, Deja, and welcomed twins in 2026.
The couple recently celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary, with both singers sharing loving messages about their relationship.
