The Chief Executive Officer of AI company Anthropic, Dario Amodei, is calling for stronger government regulation of artificial intelligence.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with ABC News, Amodei said governments should have the power to block or stop the release of AI systems considered unsafe, following proper safety assessments.

He warned that AI is developing very quickly, while existing safety rules are not keeping pace. Anthropic has also proposed stronger testing and regulation of advanced AI systems.

Amodei expressed concern about the possible impact of AI on jobs and said governments may need to provide more support for workers affected by automation.

Anthropic has also announced a 200-million-dollar investment in research into the impact of AI on society.

Despite his concerns, Amodei remains optimistic about AI, saying the technology could help solve major health problems and lead to new medical treatments.
