The Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) has called for comprehensive and inclusive reforms in the administration of Nigerian football, insisting that players and other key stakeholders must have a stronger voice in the process.

The players’ union made the call following the mass resignation of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) executive board amid concerns over the performance of the national teams and allegations of poor administration.

PFAN welcomed the Federal Government’s intervention and expressed confidence in the National Sports Commission, led by Shehu Dikko, to drive the reform process.

The union stressed that the reforms should promote transparency, accountability and equal stakeholder representation. It also urged the authorities to ensure that any changes comply with the statutes and regulations of FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to protect Nigeria from possible sanctions.

Meanwhile, FIFA and CAF are assessing the legal, governance and electoral implications of the NFF leadership crisis. FIFA has suspended the planned September 27 NFF elections while consultations with key stakeholders continue.

PFAN said it is ready to work with the government, NSC, FIFA, CAF and other stakeholders, offering its experience to help rebuild Nigerian football and create a stronger and more inclusive football administration.
